Paintwork Restoration and Paint Correction in Mansfield
Paint correction at our Mansfield Woodhouse unit: swirl marks, light scratches and dull, tired paint machine-polished back. Every car is inspected first and priced on what it actually needs, because no two sets of paintwork are in the same condition.
What paint correction in Mansfield actually does
Paint correction is machine polishing with a purpose. A cutting compound takes a very fine layer off the lacquer and levels it, so the marks sitting in that lacquer disappear rather than being filled or hidden. The gloss comes back because the surface is flat again, not because something has been laid over the top of it.
Swirl marks and light scratches
Most of what people describe as scratches all over the car turns out to be swirl marks, the fine circular marks you only really see in direct sunlight. They come from poor washing technique, or from an automatic car wash dragging grit across the panel. Swirl removal is the most common job we take on and it responds well to machine polishing.
What machine polishing will not fix
If a mark has gone through the lacquer into the colour underneath, no amount of polishing brings it back. Polishing works within the lacquer, and once that is breached the repair belongs to a different trade. Chips, dents and anything needing filler or a respray are body repair rather than paint correction. We say so at the inspection instead of after taking your money.
One stage or several
How many stages of machine work a car needs depends on how deep the marking goes. Lightly swirled paint can come up in a single pass. Heavily marked paint needs cutting first and then refining, to take out the haze the cutting stage leaves behind. That gets decided at the inspection, on your car, rather than sold to you as a package.
Bringing dull paint back
When paintwork loses its lustre, a full polish brings the shine back and takes out light scratches and paint imperfections along the way. Scratches and swirls sitting in the lacquer are exactly what the machine is for.
Every car has different requirements, so we inspect the paintwork before quoting and price it car by car rather than off a menu. We work from a fully equipped unit in Mansfield Woodhouse, which is what lets us control the lighting and take the time a proper correction needs.

Correction first, then protection
Correction and protection are two different jobs, and they work best in that order. Polishing makes the paint flat and glossy again. It does nothing to stop the car swirling straight back up the next time it is washed badly.
Once the paint is corrected, a Diamondbrite ceramic coating locks that finish in. It cures to a hard, hydrophobic coating that repels water and dirt instead of absorbing them, so the car stays cleaner between washes and the correction lasts. Wax sits on the surface and breaks down within weeks. Paint protection of this kind is a different proposition.

Most paint correction is booked alongside a valet. The car has to be properly clean before any machine work starts, so pairing the two saves you a trip and means the correction happens on a surface that has already been decontaminated.
All work runs from our unit on Old Mill Lane Industrial Estate in Mansfield Woodhouse, by appointment. This is not a mobile service. Correction needs controlled lighting and somewhere to work uninterrupted. We are family-run and have been looking after cars in Mansfield since 1999.

Paint correction questions
How much does paint correction cost?
It is quoted per car. We need to see the paintwork first, because the price depends on the size of the car, how bad the marking is and how many stages of machine work it needs. Send us a photo or bring it in for a look.
What are swirl marks, and can you remove them?
Swirl marks are the fine circular scratches you see in direct sunlight, usually from poor washing technique or an automatic car wash. They are the most common thing we correct.
Will it remove every scratch?
No, and anyone who says otherwise is guessing. Marks sitting in the lacquer come out. Damage that has gone through it needs more than polishing, and we will tell you that at the inspection.
Is paint correction the same as a smart repair?
No. Paint correction is machine polishing that levels the lacquer to take out marks sitting in it. Smart repair and body repair refinish or replace damaged paint, which is a different trade and not something we offer. If that is what your car needs, we will tell you at the inspection.
Should I protect the paint afterwards?
It is worth it. A ceramic coating or a Diamondbrite treatment keeps the finish you have just paid for rather than letting it swirl straight back up.
Do you come to me?
No. We are a fixed unit on Old Mill Lane Industrial Estate in Mansfield Woodhouse and cars come to us by appointment. We do not offer mobile paint correction.
Can you do paint correction as part of a valet?
Yes. Most correction work is booked alongside a valet so the car is cleaned down properly first. Mention it when you book so we can allow the time.
